Installing from Google Play keeps the app updated automatically. Use the APK only where Play is unavailable.
The developers hand over a new APK.
It goes up on the beta page with its own version number.
We install it on real devices and check it over.
Once approved it moves to the official APK page.
The same build is submitted to the Play Store.
