Coinsnap for BTCPayWall

Coinsnap for BTCPayWall

If you want to accept donations or offer content for Bitcoin or Lightning payments on your WordPress website, we recommend using BTCPayWall. BTCPayWall acts as a Bitcoin paywall for the sale of digital content on WordPress.

BTCPayWall enables the monetization of individual blog posts (pay-per-post), videos (pay-per-view) and digital products such as e-books or PDFs. It is also possible to accept donations in Bitcoin. Customers can simply pay with Bitcoin or Lightning.

The BTCPayWall plugin for WordPress is designed so that it can be integrated with both the BTCPay server and Coinsnap as payment gateways. To use the BTCPayWall via Coinsnap, link it to your Coinsnap account so that your customers can make payments in Bitcoin and Lightning. All incoming Bitcoin payments are immediately forwarded to your Lightning Wallet.

Example: Receipt of donations

The following applications are possible with the BTCPayWall:

  • Protect blog posts with a paywall and give access to the content when visitors pay with Bitcoin or Lightning.
  • Secure video and audio files with a paywall and release them in exchange for a Bitcoin or Lightning payment.
  • Digital Store – Sale of digital files that customers can download to their computer.
  • Accept donations directly on the website.
  • Receive Bitcoin and Lightning donations.

If you would like to support Coinsnap with a donation, you have the opportunity to explore the donation function of BTCPayWall from a user’s perspective. Donate a few Satoshis to Coinsnap.

Install Coinsnap for Shopware with Github

Github installation method

The Shopware Coinsnap plugin can be used to connect to the BTCPay server and Coinsnap.
This plugin is no longer available via the Shopware Marketplace, as Shopware has changed its business policy and charges a fee and a revenue share for the listing.
In order not to pass on these costs to our customers and to be able to continue to provide the plugin free of charge, the Shopware plugin is still available on Github without restrictions.
We explain here how you can install the Coinsnap Shopware plugin via Github.

Download Coinsnap plugin for Shopware at Github

Coinsnap Github page

Visit the Coinsnap Github page where you will find all the payment plugins provided by Coinsnap. Go to Coinsnap for Shopware. There you will find the green button labeled Code. When you click on it, the menu opens and Download ZIP appears. Here you can download the latest version of the Coinsnap plugin to your computer.

Connect Shopware to Coinsnap

As soon as a Coinsnap account has been set up, we can start connecting Shopware to Coinsnap.
The “Coinsnap for Shopware” extension is available in the “Extensions”> “My extensions” section.

(1) Determination of the configuration process

Click on the three dots on the right-hand side to start the configuration process.

(2) Initialization of the configuration

Click on Configure to start the configuration process.

The Coinsnap API Key and the Coinsnap Store ID must be stored in the configuration area.
Go to the Settings menu item in the Coinsnap backend.
There you will find the Coinsnap Store ID and the Coinsnap API Key in the Store Settings section.

Then enter the Coinsnap API key and the Coinsnap store ID that you copied from the Coinsnap backend into Shopware.
Then click on “Save credentials”.

Shopware payment methods settings

In the Settings section, you can navigate to the payment methods to change the notes for the various payment methods.
Access is via the Settings menu, which also contains the Payment methods section.

In addition to the standard payment options, Bitcoin and Lightning payment methods are also listed here, which are highlighted in blue when activated.

You have the option of displaying the Bitcoin and Lightning payment methods separately or as a joint payment method.
We recommend using it as a common payment method.
The end customer is then shown a QR code containing both Bitcoin and Lightning.
Regardless of whether the user uses a Lightning or a Bitcoin wallet, payment is possible and unwanted terminations can be avoided.

Individual configurations can be made using the “Edit details” option.
This can be used to change the display for the payer, e.g. to “Bitcoin” in our example.
The order of the payment methods displayed, the descriptive text and the associated logo can also be customized.
It is recommended to activate the function “Allow change of payment method after completion of the order”.
If someone chooses Bitcoin as a payment method but later decides against it, they can easily switch to another option.

Shopware sales channel settings

Within the sales channel, the configuration options for payment and shipping can be found under General basic settings, followed by Payment methods.

Here you can select Bitcoin and Lightning as your payment method.

As soon as this is done, these payment methods are activated and can be used in the store.

Payment plugins: fast integration into the store system

To facilitate the technical integration, we provide payment plugins for online stores and internet services. Payment plugins are ready-made payment modules that establish a connection between the internet store or website and Coinsnap.

You can download these plugins, install them yourself in a few steps without any technical knowledge and thus integrate Bitcoin and Lightning payment processing into your website.

We provide payment plugins for the most common store systems. These payment plugins are regularly updated by Coinsnap and its partners and are provided free of charge. The development of new plugins for other systems is a continuous process for Coinsnap.

Can’t find the right plugin for you? Do you use your own or a self-developed system? We are happy to implement individual connections if required.

Which payment plugins are desired?

Coinsnap develops plugins for the most popular store systems and internet applications. If your store system is not yet offered, please let us know. We are checking if and with what priority we can develop the plugin ourselves.

As a software developer, you can develop and offer payment modules yourself. Your payment module will be featured on the Coinsnap website and you will receive a revenue share on payments processed through your payment module.

Have a payment module created

If no payment module is yet available for the store system used, the following options are available:

Closed store system

The system used is a closed system. This means that the provider does not provide an open API interface that we could use to develop such a payment module.

Such closed store systems are often store systems that are offered by web hosts or whose systems are hosted by the provider itself.

Perhaps you can ask your provider whether there is an interface or whether the provider would like to develop a connection to Coinsnap on their own initiative.
We will actively support your provider if he wants to realize such a connection.

Here you can inform your provider about the creation of payment modules.

Open store system

With an open store system, there are several ways to establish a connection between the e-commerce solution you are using and Coinsnap:

(1) Shop system provider develops its own payment module for a connection to Coinsnap

Your provider can develop a Coinsnap payment module themselves and make it available to their customers.
We will actively support your provider if he wants to realize such a connection.

Here you can inform your provider about the creation of payment modules.

(2) External programmer develops payment module for you

The system used is open and the provider provides an open API interface, which can also be used by external programmers to develop such a payment module.

You can therefore commission a developer to develop such a payment module for you and make it available to you and other interested parties.

(3) Coinsnap develops a payment module for you

Alternatively, Coinsnap can program a payment module for your provider. Such a development is associated with effort and corresponding costs.

This expense would have to be invoiced by us accordingly. If it is a payment module that is frequently requested, we are prepared to subsidize part of the development costs and then make the module available free of charge.

Finally, there is also the option of switching to a store system for which we already offer a corresponding payment module.

We are constantly developing further payment modules, which we will make available free of charge. Please ask other users whether there is further interest in such a payment module so that we can prioritize the development accordingly.

API connection

Anyone using a self-developed or customized eCommerce solution for which Coinsnap does not provide a payment module can use an API connection.

Coinsnap offers documentation of the API connection and a PHP library on GitHub.
